October is National Dental Hygiene Month

October is all about educating patients on the proper way to practice excellent oral hygiene. Part of maintaining optimal oral health is practicing a healthy oral hygiene routine at home. At Alexander Dentistry, Jacksonville, FL dentists, Dr. Donald Alexander and Dr. Michael Greenburg help patients improve their smiles by providing a range of cosmetic dental services, general dental care, and restorative dentistry services.

Dr. Alexander and Dr. Greenburg encourage patients to visit our Jacksonville dentist office at least twice a year for preventive care visits. Preventive care visits allow Dr. Alexander and Dr. Greenburg to examine the teeth and determine if any complex dental problems are developing. If you do have signs of complex dental problems, we are able to provide comprehensive, personalized dental treatments to restore health and function back to your smile.

Dental Hygiene Tips

Developing and maintaining a proper oral hygiene routine only takes a few minutes out of your morning and night routine, but offers a lifetime of benefits. The point of practicing proper oral hygiene is to properly remove harmful bacteria and debris from the mouth so that it won’t stick to the teeth and causes problems like cavities, tooth decay, and halitosis. In some extreme cases, practicing improper oral hygiene may lead to gum disease, tooth loss, and infection.
At Alexander Dentistry, we want our patients to take charge of their oral health! Follow these tips to help improve your oral health and get one step closer to a healthier, brighter smile.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes a day yo receive the full benefits of brushing.
  • Add flossing to your dental hygiene routine. Flossing helps remove bacteria and debris from between the teeth.
  • Chew sugar-free gum between meals to help increase saliva productivity and get rid of debris that is circulating in the mouth.
  • Use an ADA approved mouthwash to properly flush the mouth out after brushing. Mouthwash is a great way to minimize your chance of developing plaque and gingivitis.
