Dental Implant Restorations
While there are a variety of options for people who have missing teeth, none proven as effective or durable as dental implants. Dr. Alexander offers dental implants to patients as a permanent and natural looking solution for tooth loss.
Missing teeth can make you look older than you are and cause difficulty when speaking or chewing. Once you’ve lost a tooth, the bone begins to deteriorate. If missing teeth aren’t replaced quickly, the bone will continue to deteriorate making replacement options more and more difficult. With a success rate of 95%, dental implants are quickly becoming a standard in modern dentistry for replacing missing teeth.
Implants are used to replace:
- A single missing tooth or a broken or damaged tooth that can not be corrected with a dental crown or other restoration
- Multiple teeth instead of a dental bridge
- All of the upper and/or lower teeth with an implant supported denture
The process for dental implants takes place over several months and requires multiple visits. The initial consultation involves a comprehensive evaluation of the head, mouth and jaw along with x-rays and screenings to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. We are able to achieve high success rates with our patients because of the care and time we put into treatment planning. The planning process may include photographs and models so you can visualize what the final results of your treatment will look like.
One of the main reasons why dental implants are so successful is that they are fused to living bone. An oral surgeon will place a tiny titanium post into the jaw bone to serve as an artificial root. Once the implant has healed, Dr. Alexander will place a porcelain crown, dental bridge or denture on the implant (or implants) to restore the natural beauty and function of the tooth.
Dental implants are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and are extremely durable and long lasting so you won’t have to worry about special care.
